Richard Belzer is an American actor, stand-up comedian, and author. He was born on August 4, 1944, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA.
In addition to his acting work, Belzer has also written several books, including "I Am Not a Cop!", a memoir about his experiences playing Detective Munch, and "UFOs, JFK, and Elvis: Conspiracies You Don't Have to Be Crazy to Believe". He has also worked as a stand-up comedian and appeared in a number of films, including "Scarface", "The Bonfire of the Vanities", and "Man on the Moon".
Belzer is also known for his advocacy work, particularly for animal rights and anti-war causes. He has been involved in a number of protests and campaigns over the years, and was arrested in 2013 for protesting the treatment of animals in a New York City animal testing facility.
